Compton is a unique natural hybrid between Live Oak (Q. virginiana) and Overcup Oak (Q. lyrata), both noted to be among the toughest trees for urban environments. Compton Oak was first named by Mrs. Compton of Natchez, Mississippi in the early 1900’s. Endurance™ is a vigorous selection and embodies traits of both its parents with great tolerance to many soil types and once established, very drought-tolerant.
